Midlife invited me to begin again.
Travel helped me rebuild — stronger, freer, and finally me.
I’m Joanna, founder of Midlife Butterflies — here to guide women like you into the most liberated chapter of your life.

The Spark
It started in a tiny boulangerie in France when I was just eleven. I stood there, heart pounding, summoning all the courage I could muster to order a baguette in French.
The thrill when the baker understood me lit something deep inside—a spark of independence, of curiosity, of connection. That single, dusty moment became the seed of a lifelong love affair with travel and a quiet knowing that the world had more to teach me than any classroom ever could.
Â
The Wanderlust Years
By sixteen, I was standing at the helm of a cruise ship in the Mediterranean, wind in my hair and the wide world opening up before me. We sailed through Greece, wandered the streets of Jerusalem, explored ruins in Crete. I didn’t just fall in love with places—I fell in love with possibility.  For the first time, I felt truly free. Free from expectations. Free from being the “good girl.”
Â
Free to ask: What else is out there? And who might I become if I find it?
Â
My twenties were a whirlwind of movement. I said yes—a lot. I lived abroad, worked in new cultures, tasted everything, soaked up languages, and kept chasing that spark of freedom wherever it led me.
Then came my thirties: career building, motherhood, and emigration to Australia. I had created a good life—but one built on duty, not desire.  Somewhere along the way, I stopped listening to myself.
Â
The Unraveling
Then came menopause. The great unraveling.  My son was getting ready to leave home. My job had me running on adrenaline.  My nervous system was fried. I looked in the mirror one day and barely recognized myself—not in a dramatic movie-scene kind of way, but in that quiet, aching “Where the hell did I go?” kind of way.
I didn’t need a makeover. I needed a resurrection.
The Road Back to Me
So, I did what any wildly practical, slightly unhinged woman might do:
I packed up my house, grabbed a backpack, and hit the road—alone. No plan. No five-star hotel. Just a deep pull toward freedom and the wild hope that I could find myself again somewhere far from the life I’d built.
And I did.Â
On winding trains through Sri Lanka.Â
Through sun baked valleys in Northern Vietnam.
In ancient temples in India.
On the coral reefs of Borneo.
And in the tropical silence of an Island in the South of Japan.
Each journey peeled back another layer—of fear, of expectations, of who I thought I was supposed to be. And in that shedding, I found her again:
Â
✨ The woman. ME.
✨ The one with fire, vision, and new dreams for herself.
✨ The one who trusts herself
✨ The one who listens to herself.
✨ The one who knows that midlife isn’t a crisis—it’s a cosmic invitation.
Midlife isn't the end...its the beginning !!
How Travel Heals
It holds up a mirror;
It strips away the noise.
It teaches resilience.
It ignites self-trust.
It reconnects you with your essence—beyond the mother, partner, caregiver, or professional.
You’re not too late.
You’re just in the chrysalis.
And your call to adventure is already whispering.
The first step? It might be a new dream.
It might be a flight ticket.
It might be saying “yes” to yourself for the first time in decades.
Whatever it is—
This is the moment your wings remember who they are.
You in?

Christine Carlsson
Traveling solo through Japan with Jo’s guidance was more than a trip — it was a transformative experience. From Tokyo’s buzzing energy to Kyoto’s quiet beauty, every part of the journey was carefully curated to make me feel confident, connected, and deeply immersed in the culture.
Jo’s support felt like having a wise, well-traveled friend in my corner — someone who had walked this path herself and understood the emotional as well as the logistical side of solo travel. Her deep knowledge of Japan, her detailed maps, and her thoughtful insights into everything from food to local customs gave me the freedom to explore with ease and joy.
What set Jo apart was her ability to anticipate what I’d need before I even knew it — small touches that turned my solo trip into a soulful, empowering journey. I came home not just with memories, but with clarity, confidence, and a deeper sense of self.
If you’re seeking more than just a holiday — if you’re ready to reconnect with yourself through the power of travel — Jo is the person to guide you.”
